 | Klarite® SERS substratesOverview Klarite substrates from Renishaw Diagnostics provide a unique solution for analysing and identifitying chemical compounds, through surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), for applications in life & analytical science research. Their unique design allows reproducible enhancement of Raman signal so it may be used in everyday chemical analysis in applications ranging from product authentication and biothreat detection to forensics and pharmaceutical analysis. Produced using batch manufacturing processes borrowed from the semi-conductor industry, Klarite represents a high volume, highly reproducibile platform on which to transfer the advantages of standard Raman analysis to trace level detection applications.
Key benefits- Reproducibility - semiconductor fabrication techniques afford excellent reproducibility of results
- Sensitivity - Million-fold enhacement of Raman signals readily achieved
- Specificity - Information rich nature of Raman retained
- Flexibility - A range of sample preparation techniques allows flexibility in methodology
Application areasThe high reproducibility afforded by our Klarite® SERS substrates makes them ideal for a wide variety of industrial and academic applications. Below is just a few examples of the application areas in which our customers are currently using our substrates. - Defence and homeland security (including biothreat detection)
- Product authentication
- Food analysis
- Pharmaceuticals
- Forensics
Product formats Klarite substrates are avaiable in two formats in order to provide flexibility and ease of use to the user. They may be purchased as stand-alone chips or mounted on glass microscope slides.
Slide mounted substrates are compatible with standard microscope attachments for Raman instruments and are ideal for users who wish to utilise standard drop deposition techniques. Alternatively, stand alone chips are designed for applications in which greater flexibility of sample deposition is required or those in which a relatively bulky slide would be a hindrance to the experimental procedure e.g immersion or vapour deposition techniques. Product specifications| Size (mm) | 75 x 25 x 2 (slide mounted) - 6 x 10 x 0.7 (un-mounted) | | Active area (mm) | 4 x 4 | | Active surface | Gold coated nanostructured silicon | | Sampling method | Drop deposition, vapour deposition, immersion | | Recommended excitation wavelength | 633nm, 785nm | | Laser spot size | > 5µm (> 100µm recommended) | | Power density | 2 mW per 10 µm2 |
